The playground was a neglected schoolyard until its conversion, orchestrated by the FCDC, into a haven for children, with a climbing gym and a refurbished basketball court. Most of the construction took place over one memorable weekend in the summer of 1993, when neighborhood volunteers prepared the site and installed the play equipment - fueled by food and drink donated by nearby businesses.
