The Fenway CDC

Walk to Work Program

From modest beginnings in 1993, the FCDC's Walk to Work program has grown into a successful job referral network that links residents with employment and training opportunities in the Fenway and at institutions around the neighborhood. Over 300 people have taken advantage of the program. At our Jobs Resource Center, folks browse through extensive, up-to-date job listings, use our computers to write resumes and cover letters, borrow reference books, and get coaching and referrals from our staff. We also team up with three dozen medical, cultural, and educational institutions in the Fenway and Longwood Medical Area to sponsor joint workshops where job seekers can gain new skills while meeting prospective employers.

In a neighborhood where you can hear ten different languages spoken, learning English can be a step toward economic self-sufficiency. We sponsor English for Employment - an intensive 24-week course at the YMCA - and a weekly conversational group for folks who want to improve their speaking skills.
