When these buildings opened in 1990, they were the first new housing built in the Fenway in 60 years. They also represented another milestone: they include the country's first apartments bulit with federal funds for people with HIV. "K Street" contains 52 mixed-income, family-friendly apartments; the West Fenway Apartments feature 55 rental units priced to be affordable for low-income elderly and handicapped residents. Although bulit simultaneously and seemingly a single structure, the buildings' finances and organizations are independent.
